Plan Details and Assumptions
Ocado Shopping Evidence Notes
These basket notes explain why this plan is shaped around certain ingredients and swaps before you open the shopping list.
- Best for planned online shops, wider range searches, scheduled deliveries and easy repeat baskets.
- Use Ocado plans when you want M&S products, broad branded choice or specialist diet items without visiting multiple stores.
- Check substitutions and delivery cut-offs before relying on a narrow ingredient or exact pack size.
The Assumptions Behind This Plan
Every plan is built on four decisions. If one of them does not match your week, that is the part to change - the swaps below cover the common cases.
| Decision | This plan uses | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Calorie target | Built around roughly 3,000 kcal per day | High-calorie days need snacks and carbohydrate portions rather than one oversized dinner. |
| Supermarket | Ocado | Ocado pages suit online baskets, scheduled deliveries, M&S ranges and easy repeat shops. |
| Budget | £95–150/week estimate | Moderate plans allow more convenience items and variety without becoming premium-only. |
| Prep style | Standard (20–30 min/day) | Standard-prep plans balance variety, fresh meals and realistic weekday cooking. |
Shopping This Plan At Ocado
Online-only, with a very wide catalogue and the M&S food range alongside its own label.
What Ocado is good for here
- The widest catalogue of any UK grocer, so speciality and diet-specific ingredients are rarely a blocker.
- Delivery slots and a saved trolley make repeating the same weekly prep shop straightforward.
- Ocado publishes a minimum-life-on-delivery policy, which suits plans that shop once and cook across the week. Check the current policy before relying on it.
Worth knowing before you shop
- Delivery fees and minimum basket sizes change the real cost of a small weekly shop.
- No physical stores, so there is no option to top up mid-week.
Retailer details checked 2026-07-20. Ranges and loyalty schemes change — the weekly cost estimate above is based on the plan's budget tier, not on live prices at this store.
Swaps & Suggestions
💰 Make it cheaper
- Buy Ocado's Ocado Own Range (740+ own-label lines) range for rice, pasta, oats and tins — nutritionally identical to standard lines, at the lowest price point in store
- Replace fresh salmon with tinned mackerel or sardines in brine (saves ~£2–3/week)
- Switch to Ocado's value range across the board rather than mid-tier lines
- Use frozen chicken breast instead of fresh (saves ~£1.50/week, same protein)
- Swap fresh berries for frozen mixed berries (same nutrients, fraction of the cost)
💪 Increase protein
- Add a post-workout combination of fast carbs and protein (banana and whey, or chocolate milk) after harder sessions
- Use an extra portion of chicken, fish or tofu on higher-training days rather than cutting carbs to make room
- Greek yogurt with fruit and granola covers both protein and carb needs in one snack
🥦 Make it vegetarian
- Replace chicken with Quorn fillets or diced firm tofu
- Swap beef mince for tinned green lentils or plant-based mince
- Use halloumi or feta instead of meat in lunch salads
- Substitute eggs or cottage cheese for fish-based meals
